KAROL MAC GAIRBHEITH

Ealaíontóir tírdhreach as Gaeltacht Iarthar Dhún na nGall.

Is mise Karol Mac Gairbheith agus is teicneolaí ailtireachta mé a d’fhill abhaile ó Londain mar gheall ar thinneas meabhrach, atá ag teacht chun sláinte arís trí staidéar ar an phéintéireacht.  Le dearcadh agus meas as an nua, thosaigh mé ag péinteáil tírdhreach mo cheantar dúchais Gaoth Dobhair.

Faoi láthair tá breis is 30 píosa éagsúil, i mo stíl fhéin a chuir le chéile agam ar thírdhreach Iarthar Dhún na nGall i gcomhair taispeántas aonair i samhradh na bliana 2017.  Is é mhian áilleacht thírdhreach Dhún Fionnachaidh, an Fhál Carrach, Gaoth Dobhair, na Rossann agus Gleann Bheithe a léiriú trí mo chuid scileanna péinteála agus iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar áiteanna éagsúla aitheanta agus neamh aiteanta faoi na ceantair sin agus iad a phéintéail.  Tugaim cuairt go minic ar thaispeántais ealaíne in Éirinn agus thar lear le aithne a chur ar theicnící stíleanna, agus formáidí na ealaíontóirí eile chomh maith le na healaíontóirí aitheanta. Ba bhreá liom léargas a thabhairt ar an táithí  a fhaighim ar na cuairteanna a thugam chuig na taispéantais sin, chomh maith lé ionspioráid agus spreagadh a thabhairt d’ealaíontóirí óga.  Bím de shíor ag tógáil griangrafanna den cheantar agus ag déanamh taighde.  Rachaidh an taithí ealaíne seo, chomh maith leis an treoir a fhaighim ó ‘Create-a-link’ go mór chun sochair dom fhéin le theacht slán ón mheabharthinneas.

Landscape artist from the Gaeltacht of West Donegal.

I am Karol Mac Gairbheith, an architectural technologist that recently returned home from London due to mental illness, and I have been recovering through studying painting.  With new found appreciation, I have begun to paint the landscape of my native Gweedore town land with different eyes.

I am producing a body of work, somewhat 30 pieces of varying size and format on the landscape of West Donegal in my own painting style for a solo exhibition to take place in the summer of 2017.  The intention is to realise the beauty of the landscapes of Dunfanaghy, Falcarragh, Gweedore, the Rosses and Glenveagh, by developing my painting skills and to explore both known and unknown places within the area.  I frequently visit art exhibitions both home and abroad to study the styles, techniques and formats of other artists as well as the old masters.  I would very much like to give other people the experience that I get from visiting those exhibitions, and possibly inspire young budding artists.  I am actively recording the locality through photography along with gathering research.  The art experience, with mentoring received at ‘Create-a-link’ will greatly benefit my recovery in mental health.
